Updated: Oct 22, 2019

The three essences described below were a custom project for HOUSE OF GNOSIS. If you would like to purchase these essences, you can purchase here

BLACK HENBANE & AMETHYST are one of those couples that came to me without any effort on my part. They just belong together, for reasons I may be able to express as well as many I won’t be able to. This essence was first created on July 2nd, 2019 during the peak of a Total Solar Eclipse while the Moon was transiting from dark to new. In many ways, there couldn’t have been a more perfect time to prepare this essence. To me, Henbane feels like a helping hand, gentle and strong. There she is, reaching to us as we step out of the dark moon, reaching to us while the sun is eclipsed, showing us that ‘this too shall pass’. We never have to sit in the dark longer than we want and in the moments where we feel unable to leave the darkness, she will sit with us until we are ready to stand on our own again. Even more, once we are able to stand on our own again, she will show you that your gentleness is a strength. Beyond her embodiment of a helping hand, Black Henbane is a spirit who knows her power. She is more forgiving than some of her sister plants but no less commanding of respect. Henbane knows death, intimately, making her even more qualified for walking with us through our own personal hell as well as journeys to the underworld. She can see us through transitions, especially those of an internal nature, and will aid us in our conversations with death, the dying and the dead. If you are uncomfortable with topics of death, darkness and the unknown, she will bring ease and grace to your experience. If you live, work or play in the murky waters and liminal spaces, she will delight in the deliciousness and potency of the darkness with you. Black Henbane is here for us. Of all the spirits along the poison path, Black Henbane makes a fine ally and confidante. Lastly, as with every strong relationship and bond, you will get from her what you put in, so be good to her and respect her. Planetary Association: Saturn Amethyst, a variety of quartz, has long been associated with tranquility, transmutation, psychic awareness and dream space. When this couple presented itself, I wondered why Amethyst and Henbane chose each other. I am beginning to realize while Henbane can walk us through the darkness, Amethyst teaches us to keep our eyes open during the journey. It is one experience to run through our trials and initiations, and a completely different experience to have the courage to look around, to take it all in. It is this awareness that allows us to transmute our pain, fear and discomfort into growth, accomplishment and understanding. For those choosing their journeys into the underworld, Amethyst not only serves as an aid for psychic awareness, it also brings peace of mind and keen memory. Planetary Association: Jupiter & Mercury

DATURA & BLACK TOURMALINE the teacher’s teacher, the healer’s healer, the master’s companion. It is true that we all, at some time or another in our lives, will be in the giving position and then a position of receiving; a position of teaching and then a position of learning. Life is fluid in this way. You have strengths to share with me and I have my own strengths to share with you. This is how we grow individually and collectively. Within the position of teaching and giving, some have chosen to step forward as leaders, teachers, healers, masters and guides as part of their personal work and as a service to the collective. If you have chosen this path, you most likely know the light and the shadow aspects of the work. A wise one is often loved, trusted and respected for their wisdom and the journey they traveled to share it. A wise one can also be feared, judged and persecuted for their message. The differing response has little to do with the message and much to do with the ears on which it falls. To be on the path of a master is to acknowledge and accept that you are first and foremost responsible for yourself and secondly, there is no map. This level of accountability and responsibility is more than many would want, or could handle. As time passes you learn to rely less on social constructs and social norms and more on your own inner compass. However, this is where many masters-to-be lose their footing. For some, the inner compass is purely focused on self with no sight of the collective or the inner compass is solely focused on the collective with no true sight of the self. To make matters even more complex and dynamic, what we understand of the collective shifts along with our understanding of the self and vice-versa. These terrains are not well traveled and it is easy for a master-to-be to give up, having no well written map or guidelines to follow. It is within this dynamic that Datura & Black Tourmaline enter to offer aid. During the leap of consciousness required, there comes a time where you have to walk alone, even if only for a moment, to re calibrate yourself and return to source. When no one is around to validate or criticize, and it feels as if you are walking between worlds, Datura can be your guide. She can teach you how to check yourself, how to love yourself and judge yourself without emotion attached. She can teach you to observe. She can teach you what it is to step through the veil with ease, time and time again. She can connect you with your guides and teachers that exist in the next phase of consciousness. She is a mentor. There is a certain amount of inner work that you need to have done before approaching her and that “certain amount” will vary from person to person. Datura is the all seeing eye and there is no lying in her presence. She will ignore you and elude you until you are ready to simultaneously own your power and humble yourself. Ultimately, she is teaching you to be the most authentic, ever evolving, and sovereign version of yourself possible. Planetary Association: Jupiter Black Tourmaline, also known as Schorl, is a force to be reckoned with. It is no wonder these two are paired together. In order to cross through liminal space and step into new realms of consciousness, the master must remain protected, grounded and connected to the physical body (that is, if your work is on the Earthly plane). If your work is outside of the physical body, black tourmaline can protect your astral body as well as your physical body during your travels. Black tourmaline can increase intellectual acuity, emotional stability and physical vitality, making it a necessary talisman for anyone teaching or working in the energy field of others. Planetary Association: Saturn *This essence was infused by Solar energy as well as Lunar energy during a full moon and carries BOTH Solar and Lunar vibration.

MONKSHOOD & PEARL what offerings, invisibility & devotion are made of. An otherworldly gift, Monkshood releases you from the paradigm of time and space as we know it, and assists you in your magical workings and personal healing. When a practitioner’s work needs to be kept to themselves and hidden, Monkshood is the perfect ally to grant you invisibility and protection. Its energy is akin to slipping out of the physical and into the ethereal body in order to safely fulfill your tasks without being seen or noticed. Whereas other plant allies hold space for stillness, Monkshood is all about Spirit in action. This plant wants to and WILL make waves. As with any form of consciousness, Monkshood has a choice whether or not to aid you in your workings so be mindful and committed fully before calling on it. No one person can speak for another being but in my experience, if you disrespect the presence of this plant, it will most likely be the last time. Overall, the energy of Monkshood is powerful and deeply rooted in many realms. I personally have seen multi-dimensional beings working closely with this plant and they will most likely work with you as well if your intentions align with theirs. Sacred to Hekate, who formed Monkshood from the foaming mouth of Cerberus, the three-headed dog that guarded the gates to the Underworld. Consider working with this essence as a devotion to Hekate or consecrating altar items and tools with this essence before working with her. Planetary Association: Saturn Pearl, the jewel of the ocean. Beyerl says it best in his book “The Master Book of Herbalism”- “Pearls represent purity, peace, tranquility and wisdom. They are often worn by a person who is recognized as a leader, trusted and loved for compassion and knowledge.” “... use of pearls to pledge honor and loyalty to another- Cleopatra is said to have dissolved a pearl in acid, and then drank it in honor of Antony.” This eloquently and completely expresses why Pearl is paired with Monkshood. To wield so much power successfully one requires the purity, peace, tranquility and wisdom Beyerly speaks of. Of course this may take some work on our parts, but that is how Pearl can assist us through this essence. Pearl will heighten our awareness of self, make space for compassion, blaze trails of knowledge, and show us what true honor and loyalty are within the work we do as individual practitioners. I can’t think of a more perfect complementary pair than the grace of Pearl with the power of Monkshood. Planetary Association: Moon *This essence was created during a half moon, neither full nor empty but in between. As such, this essence also carries the energies of the in between. WHEN ALL THREE ARE WORKED WITH TOGETHER When these three are together, they remind me of the Mother, Maiden & Crone; the student, the teacher, the master. Although each individual essence carries all these archetypes, and more, when used together they offer a full spectrum of wisdom, protection, lessons and completion. I hope you enjoy exploring the realms of wisdom carried within these essences, as much as I enjoyed facilitating their creation. "Essences draw us away from the illusion of separation and towards the truth of unity- unity through relationship with plant, mineral, animal and each other"
